Update on DailySteals.com – Orders and Company Issues

by Leigh on February 14, 2012

I am getting several comments and emails from my readers regarding a deal I posted regarding the Nintendo Fun N Fit Bundle from Daily Steals. Many of you are saying you have yet to receive your item and are having issues contacting their customer service.

If it is any consolation, I have ordered several times from Daily Steals. Sometimes I have received my order quickly, other times it has taken up to a month. As with most daily deal sites, they often do not have the inventory in-house and your order is sent to the manufacturer for order fulfillment. Because of this, you can expect a longer delivery time when purchasing through daily deal sites.

Now on to their customer service. I have never personally had to deal with their customer service department. After hearing your issues, I immediately went to their Facebook page where I am seeing some complaints in regards to emails not being answered in a timely manner. This is obviously a big problem. There appears to be three ways you can contact them: Email (sales@dailysteals.com), Phone (718-604-2605), or Online Contact Form. You can also attempt to contact them via Facebook or Twitter, although they don’t appear to answer through those avenues either.

I know that many of you are upset with me over this deal. First of all, I don’t think that this a issue regarding them taking your money without sending the product. I honestly believe that this is about slow shipping. If you placed your order on 2/2/12, that means that it has been less than 2 weeks since ordering. If you were to have ordered through Walmart or Amazon, you would have most likely received your product by now. Unfortunately, since this is a daily deal site, it usually takes longer. I know that many of you may have ordered this item for a birthday present. Although Daily Steals’ shipping issues are out of my control, I still apologize for the delay and inconvenience.

I understand that many of you are angry with me for posting this deal. As I mentioned before, I have ordered from them before and have always received my product. Please understand that I work very hard to ensure that every deal that I post is legit and from a reputable company. I highly value my reputation and would NEVER post anything that I perceived as a scam. In fact, I have a list of companies that I refuse to promote or do business with based on bad customer service. I have never received any negative comments or emails regarding Daily Steals until the last few days.

After doing my own research, I have decided that I will no longer promote or advertise any deals from Daily Steals. This decision is not due to their slow shipping times, but instead due to their lack of customer service. I do not feel right about sending you, my valued readers, to a company that doesn’t appear to care about their customers.

Again, I apologize to those of you who feel I did wrong by promoting this company. I hope that you understand that it was not my intention and that I value each and every one of you! I have worked hard to build a good reputation for Spoiled but Not Rotten and I would NEVER do anything to compromise that.

Disney’s “The Secret World of Arrietty” is set to hit theaters everywhere on February 17, 2012!

From the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) comes “The Secret World of Arrietty,” an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.” “The Secret World of Arrietty”  is an amazing animated adventure that explores the incredible world of very tiny people who live peacefully and undetected beneath the floorboards of a country house.

Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents (voices of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (voice of Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty (AIR-ee-ett-ee) remains hidden from view, except for the occasional venture beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies  from her human hosts. When 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger.

Interesting Facts:

  • Hayao Miyazaki is one of the most influential filmmakers working in animation today. His films have inspired moviegoers and colleagues around the world, from Pixar’s John Lasseter to fantasist Guillermo del Toro to Chinese director Tsui Hark, and consistently top the box office in his native Japan.
  • Director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, a top animator at Studio Ghibli, was responsible for the animation in a signature scene in “Ponyo,” in which Ponyo runs atop ocean waves.
  • English language voice talent director Gary Rydstrom is a seven-time Academy Award winning sound designer/mixer (“Terminator 2: Judgment Day”). He joined Pixar Animation Studios as an animation film director in 2003.  His directorial debut for the studio was the Academy Award®-nominated short film “Lifted,” and he directed the short film “Hawaiian Vacation,” which was released with “Cars 2” in June 2011.
  • Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are highly successful producing partners whose films, separately and together, include “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “E.T.,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?,” the Indiana Jones films and the Jurassic Park films. In total, Kennedy and Marshall have earned 11 Oscar® nominations.
  • English language screenplay writer Karey Kilpatrick’s credits include “Spiderwick Chronicles” and “Over the Hedge,” which he also directed (with Tim Johnson).

Tuesday Treats: Homemade Valentine’s Pop Tarts

by Leigh on February 7, 2012

We are sticking with the Valentine’s Day theme in this week’s Tuesday Treats. Today, I am sharing with you a Homemade Valentine’s Pop Tarts recipe from The Naptime Chef, which was featured on Babble’s The Family Kitchen. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of refrigerated pie crust

Glaze:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sugar sprinkles for dusting

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
  2. Transfer the pie crusts to a lightly floured surface and cut it into 2×3 rectangles. It is easiest to measure the pieces with a ruler, score the crust with a knife and cut it with a pizza cutter.
  3. Spoon about 2 teaspoons of strawberry jam onto one of the rectangles, leaving about 1/4 inch of space before the edge. Use a cookie cutter or paring knife to cut heart shapes out of the second rectangle. Then place the heart rectangle over the jam and seal the edges together with the tines of a fork. Baking on a cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes, then allow to cool.
  4. To make the glaze mix the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a bowl and add food coloring if desired. Drizzle the glaze over the warm pop tarts and sprinkle with sanding sugar.

Tuesday Treats: Valentine Jelly Pops

by Leigh on January 31, 2012

Since Valentine’s Day is only a couple weeks away, it is time to bring out the Valentine’s Day treats! These Valentine Jelly Pops are made with yogurt, gelatin and sweetened condensed milk – perfect for a Valentine’s Day party or after-school snack!

Prep Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 4 hours

Servings: 15 Jelly Pops

Ingredients:

{Red Layer}

  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 3 oz package strawberry flavored gelatin dessert (sugar free dissolves very easily)
  • 1/2 cup cold water

{Pink Layer}

  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 1/2 envelopes plain gelatin
  • 1 6 oz strawberry flavor Yoplait yogurt

{White Layer}

  • 1/3 cup cold water
  • 1 envelope less 1/2 tsp plain gelatin
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 each wooden coffee stirrers, cut into 2 inch lengths for garnish, if desired

Directions:

  1. These pops are super cute whether they’re made in a silicon mold (I used this cute little baba mold), or set in a baking pan (I’d use a standard loaf pan – about 8″ x 4″) and cut into squares.  If using a silicone mold, prepare mold by spraying lightly with cooking spray, then wiping each mold cavity clean with a paper towel. This will leave a slight residue to aid in un-molding without affecting the taste or appearance of the jelly pops. If setting in a glass or non-reactive metal baking pan, no prep is needed.  The instructions below are for molds – so if you’re setting in a pan, just pour in the layers!
  2. Red Layer: Dissolve strawberry gelatin in boiling water. Add cold water. Pour 1 tsp. of the gelatin into each mold cavity. Refrigerate until firm but not fully set (should be fairly firm, but still slightly sticky when touched – about 20 minutes). While the red layer is chilling, prepare Pink Layer.
  3. Pink Layer: Pour water into small saucepan. Sprinkle with gelatin and allow to soak for a minute or two. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in yogurt. Allow to cool to room temperature – you may want to pop the gelatin in the fridge or freezer for a minute or two to help it along. Pour 1 tbsp into each mold cavity. Refrigerate until firm but not fully set (should be fairly firm, but still slightly sticky when touched – about 15 to 20 minutes). While the pink layer is chilling, Prepare White Layer.
  4. White Layer: Pour water into a small saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow to soak for a minute or two. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved (about 5 minutes). Stir in the sweetened condensed milk. Allow to cool to room temperature. Pour approximately 2 tsp. into each mold cavity.
  5. Refrigerate several hours or overnight, until fully set. (Overnight is ideal as it allows the layers to fully bond.) Garnish each jelly pop with a coffee stirrer segment to make the “popsicle” handle, if desired.
