The Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo interactive playset brings animals to life by incorporating 4 habitats: grasslands, arctic, jungle and water. Place any animal on the peg at the hut and it recognizes that specific animal and responds with that animal’s name and the sound it makes. Little People sets are perfect for this age range and this set doesn’t disappoint! Recommended for ages 18 months – 6 years.

Recommended for ages 24 months to 7 years.

Elmo has been a hot toy item the past several years and this year is no exception. This year’s top pick is the Sesame Street Let’s Rock Elmo. For even more rockin’ fun, Elmo also interacts with other Let’s Rock instruments (sold separately) and he knows when you are playing any of the other Let’s Rock instruments and plays along with you! The kitchen features realistic electronic features in the stovetop and phone.Features like “granite” countertops and “stainless” appliances make it hard to believe it’s just a toy. Recommended for ages 24 months to 6 years.

This toy was a huge hit in our house for both our little girl and boy. Recommended for ages 1-3 years.

Puzzles help children build problem solving skills, coordination and so much more! Some of my favorite puzzles come from the Melissa & Doug line of toys. They are bright, colorful wooden puzzles that seem to last forever.  For the young children, your best bet is to start out with the chunky puzzles. As they grow older, you can move to puzzles which are more complex. Recommended for ages 24 months and up.

This age group is perfect for introducing a playhouse or tent. There are so many to choose from to suite your needs – single or multiple kids, inside or outside, ect. Top Toy Picks 2011: Infant – 18 Months

by Leigh on November 3, 2011

The Playskool Poppin’ Park Elefun Busy Ball Popper is the first new toy on our list this year. This is very similar to the Playskool Explore and Grow Busy Ball Popper which was on last year’s list of our top toy picks (and still highly recommended!). Recommended for ages 9 months and up, this Elefun Busy Ball Popper will have kids squealing with delight with its upbeat music and engaging ball-popping action.

LeapFrog’s My Pal Scout and My Pal Violet have made this year’s list again. Download your child’s name and favorite things to do with this cuddly customizable puppy. Press your puppy’s paws for lullabies, learning songs, and activities with numbers, animals, food and more. My little girl received this puppy for her first birthday and it quickly became one of her favorite toys! Recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years.

The Tiny Love Musical Stack and Ball Game is made with baby-soft materials and integrates lights, sounds and textures to offer a multi-sensory experience. This was another toy which was huge hit at my house! It includes easy-to grip soft links and rings, crinkly ears and 4 colorful balls which have rattles inside.  Music and lights reward your child as they drop the balls in the stacker. Recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years.

With consistently high reviews, the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Fun with Friends Musical Table is great because it grows with your child. For kids on the younger side, remove the legs and place the table on the floor. As your child grows and becomes more mobile, reattach the legs to transform back into a table. This Fun with Friends Musical Table has over 50 songs, tunes and musical activities which teach letters, numbers, opposites, shapes, colors and first words. The LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table is very similar and is in the same price range. However, it does have different activities, so you can compare to see which one your child would enjoy the most. Recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years.

Invite your child to learn through singing, dancing and playing with the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Dance And Play Puppy. Basically a motorized version of the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Puppy, the Laugh & Learn Dance & Play Puppy fosters language development and ability to follow direction by guiding your child through motions, letters and numbers. Puppy can clap, wiggle his body from side to side, raise his ears and knows over 25 songs and phrases. Recommended for ages 9 months to 5 years.

Explore shapes, colors with food pieces, manners and more with the LeapFrog Shapes And Sharing Picnic Basket.Over 30 audio responses encourage pretend play and this 14-piece picnic set helps build motor skills as they sort, match, stack, empty and fill. Recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years.

Encourage discovery, fine motor skills and open-ended play with Mega Bloks! These oversized building blocks are perfect for little hands and allow little ones to create masterpieces with their imagination. My son received the Mega Bloks Fill and Dump Wagon for his first birthday and not only did it get lots of use then, but he still pulls it out to play with it now that he is 5! Lots of these sets come in both primary colors and pink so that you can customize for gender. Recommended for ages 12 months to 5 years.

The Vtech – Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker is another one of my favorite 2-in-1 toys. Your little one can start out with the easy-to-remove play panel for floor play. Once he/she becomes more mobile, this push-behind walker becomes fun on-the-run! The Learning Walker teaches shapes, colors, animals, music and much more! Telephone handset, spinning gears and open/close barn door enhance role play fun. Recommended for ages 9 months to 3 years.

The Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn: Learning Piggy Bank will help your little one learn colors, counting, animals and sizes with songs, music, speech and activities. The Learning Piggy comes with 10 colorful coins to drop into the slot while counting along, comparing big and small, and discovering mommy and baby animals. Recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years.

The Baby Einstein Count and Compose Piano combines auditory, visual and language development all into one toy. The large screen features colored lights that dance in time to the playful classical melodies and the roller drum with rattle balls promotes fine motor skill development. Baby will get an introduction to numbers 1-5 in english, spanish and french as each number piano key is pressed. Features three play modes: instrument key mode, baby composer mode and counting mode. Recommended for ages 6 months and up.
